5 Tips To Keep Your Eyes Healthy

The eyes are like the built-in cameras that living creatures have, although they may differ in appearances and sizes. Each part works together to help a person see.

But the eyes can be damaged whether due to old age, hereditary factors, or an unhealthy lifestyle. Common eye problems are blurry vision, floaters, and blind spot. It is essential to seek professional help regularly to avoid these eye problems.

Here are six tips to prevent you from developing eye problems and help you maintain healthy eyes.

1. Eat a balanced diet

As cliché as it may sound, good eye health starts with what you put on your plate. Your eyes will need nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, lutein, zinc, and vitamins C and E to ward off age-related eye problems like cataract or macular degeneration.

Your diet should include green leafy vegetables like spinach, kale, and collards. You should also add salmon, tuna, and other oily fish.

For protein sources, you may add eggs, nuts, and beans. Oranges and other citrus fruits will also help, as well as eating oysters and pork.

However, do not forget that too much of everything is bad. It would help if you had a balanced diet to keep a healthy body, which lowers your odds of developing obesity and type 2 diabetes, leading to blindness among adults.

2. Don’t Smoke or Quit that Habit

According to WebMD, smoking increases the likelihood of developing cataracts and macular degeneration. If you had tried quitting before and failed, you might want to reconsider to start again.

The more times you try, the more likely you would succeed. Ask your family and friends for support and seek professional help when possible.

3. Wear Sunglasses to Protect Your Eyes from UV Rays

The right pair of sunglasses will help you protect your eyes from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. Too much exposure will increase your chance of developing eye problems.

It would be best to use sunglasses that block 99 or 100% of UVA and UVB. You may also choose sunglasses with wraparound lenses or with polarized lenses. The former helps protect the eyes from the side while the latter reduces glare while you are driving.

When wearing contact lenses, you might want to consider buying those with UV protection, although wearing sunglasses for an extra layer is still a good idea…..
