Key takeaways:

  • Embracing home OCT monitoring can help retina specialists monitor patients who have achieved extended treatment intervals.
  • Research has shown accurate fluid detection with home OCT.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — For patients who have achieved extended treatment intervals, retina specialists should embrace home OCT monitoring, according to a speaker.

At the Retina World Congress, Courtney Crawford, MD, owner of Star Retina and Star Vision Research, said that it only takes 47 seconds for a home OCT image to be captured, after which it is stored in the cloud and interpreted by an AI platform where hyporeflective spaces are detected.

“Then the doctor sets the parameters by which an alert is made for these hyporeflective spaces,” he said. “The Home OCT by Notal Vision shows that you can simultaneously evaluate two different time periods at the same time.”

Using home OCT, ophthalmologists can thoroughly assess patient disease activity between visits.
