World Sight Day 2026: “Love Your Eyes”, Protect Your Vision
October 8, 2026, is World Sight Day—a time to recognize the importance of eye health and encourage everyone to prioritize it.
The Macular Degeneration Association (MDA) is proud to recognize World Sight Day and join the global conversation with a simple message: #LoveYourEyes.
Loving your eyes means more than scheduling an eye examination. It means understanding your eye health, knowing your risk factors, noticing changes in your vision, and talking with your eye-care professional.
Your Vision Matters
Vision helps us stay connected, independent, and engaged in everyday life. Conditions such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), geographic atrophy (GA), diabetic retinopathy, and diabetic macular edema can significantly affect individuals and families.
Some eye diseases can develop gradually, making regular eye care especially important. If you notice changes such as distortion, difficulty reading, changes in central vision, new blind spots, flashes, floaters, or other unusual symptoms, don’t ignore them. Talk with your eye-care professional.
Knowledge Is Power
At MDA, we believe patients and caregivers deserve understandable, trustworthy information about diseases that can threaten vision.
Our complimentary educational programs and resources help patients, caregivers, families, and the public learn more about macular degeneration, geographic atrophy, diabetic eye disease, low vision, nutrition, caregiving, and advances in research.
We also recognize the important role caregivers play. Vision loss can affect the entire family, and having reliable information can help caregivers provide support and better understand what their loved one may be experiencing.
Hope for Today and Tomorrow
Research continues to expand our understanding of retinal disease and bring new possibilities for patients. MDA supports research while also providing education and resources people can use today.
This World Sight Day, take a moment to make your vision a priority:
Schedule an eye examination. Ask questions. Learn about your eye health. Watch for changes in your vision. Support someone living with vision loss. Share reliable information.
Most importantly, remember:
Knowledge is Power.
This World Sight Day, #LoveYourEyes and make eye health part of your routine—not just on October 8, but year-round.
