The Macular Degeneration Association (MDA) will be hosting an educational program in beautiful Asheville, NC on Saturday, May 18th, 2024. This program will cover the following subjects: All aspects of macular degeneration, geographic atrophy, diabetic eye disease, and dry eye disease.

The program will be held at The Doubletree Aasheville-Biltmore   Located at 115 Hendersonville Road, Asheville, NC- self-parking.

Meeting Room: Burghley Ballroom

Starting time is 8:30 am with check-in and buffet breakfast and will end promptly at noon.

The program speaker is Jeffry Gerson, OD, FAAO- Macular Degeneration Association’s Medical Director- Dr. Gerson graduated from Indiana University School of Optometry in 1997. He then completed a residency at the VA Medical Center in Kansas City concentrating on ocular disease and low vision. Immediately after leaving the VA, he became a faculty at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in the Department of Ophthalmology. Dr. Gerson was responsible for staffing clinics as well as some resident education and development of a low-vision clinic.
Before entering private practice, he was in several different settings, including 2 ½ years in a retinal referral center where he had access to numerous diagnostic technologies as well as participation in numerous clinical trials.
Dr. Gerson has authored several articles in journals such as “Review of Optometry” and “Optometric Management”, and continues to do so. He also lectures frequently on the topics of retinal disease and systemic disease both here in the US and abroad. He is on numerous advisory boards which often allows him early access to technology. Dr. Gerson continues to be a trusted consultant for many Eyecare industry companies and patient advocacy groups. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, and the Kansas Optometric Association, and a fellow of both the Academy of Optometry and the Optometric Retina Society. Dr. Gerson practices at Grin Eye Care located in Olathe & Leawood, KS.
